There will be three elected positions on the City Council on the ballot this November. Seats currently held by city councilors George Vetter and Mike Benefield will be open, as well as the mayor’s seat, held by Mayor Sam Steidel. All three incumbents are eligible to run for a second term, but Vetter has announced he will not seek a second term. To schedule a meeting to review the requirements and begin the process, candidate hopefuls should contact the Colleen Riggs, the city elections officer, at riggs@ci.cannon-beach.or.us, or at 503-436-8052.

Cannon Beach charter requires candidates to obtain 50 valid signatures of eligible Cannon Beach voters, and otherwise follow the state guidelines to appear on the November ballot.

For those interested, here are some key deadlines to consider:

Aug. 17: Recommended date for candidates to submit their petition signature sheets to the city elections official.

Aug. 28: Last day for a city candidate to file declaration of candidacy and candidate signature sheets with city elections official for offices filled at general election.

Aug. 31: Last day for city candidates to file withdrawal of candidacy.
