At their November meeting, participants prepared for the 12th consecutive year of Cannon Beach Reads. From 57 fiction and nonfiction titles suggested by members, participants chose 12 books to read during 2018. These will be available for loan at the Cannon Beach Library, for purchase at Cannon Beach Book Company or through online book dealers.

Titles for 2018 include: “Life on the Mississippi” by Mark Twain (Jan. 17); “It Can’t Happen Here,” by Sinclair Lewis (Feb. 21); “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven,” by Sherman Alexie (March 21); “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” by Ernest Hemingway (April 18), “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and “Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll (May 16), “Only a Theory: Evolution and the Battle for America’s Soul,” by Kenneth Miller (June 20), Candide: “Zadig and Selected Stories,” by Voltaire (July 18), “The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls (Aug. 15), “Mink River,” by Brian Doyle (Sept. 19), “The Handmaid’s Tale,” by Margaret Atwood (Oct. 17), “Overbooked: The Exploding Business of Travel and Tourism,” by Elizabeth Becker (Nov. 21) and “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind,” by Yuval Noah Harari (Dec. 19).

Cannon Beach, Arch Cape and Seaside residents and visitors attend monthly meetings of Cannon Beach Reads for conversation, coffee or tea and cookies. New members are encouraged to participate.
