Happy autumn, library friends!! As the days get cooler and shorter — and hopefully wetter, the sooner the better — there are some exciting upcoming events on the library schedule.
First of all, September is our annual fall festival month. Come check out our front table, which is set up for our silent auction and gift certificate drawing, which is a month-long opportunity. Several wonderful local hotels have donated hotel stays as the basis for our silent auction. A number of local merchants have donated gift certificates, which make up our drawing. Drawing tickets are on sale now at $1 each, six tickets for $5, and 25 tickets for $20. Drawing items are valued at $25 to $150, and there are multiple chances to win. The names of the lucky winners will be announced at the festival at 3 p.m. You do not have to be present to win,
The fall festival itself will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the library. Lovely hand-crafted items will be offered for sale, as well as some scrumptious baked goods. This year we have added an old fashioned cake walk. There will be several opportunities to join in on the fun throughout the day. This is a not-to-be-missed event, so add it to your calendars!
Drawing tickets for our lovely handmade quilt are still on sale at the library during regular business hours. Tickets are $1 each, or 6 for $5. We hope you have had an opportunity to come see it in person, at the library and at the farmers market. The quilt drawing will be held at our upcoming December holiday tea.
Looking ahead to October, we will be celebrating our 90th birthday month at our membership meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. Our hostesses will have prepared a celebratory brunch. The speaker will be Robert Moberg, and the topic of the talk will be the Chinook Nation. Plan on joining us at this cozy event. New members and guests are always welcome!
Cannon Beach Reads will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The group will have been reading “Let There be Water: Israel’s Solution for a Water-Starved World,” by Seth M Siegel. Marjorie MacQueen will be the discussion leader.
Our special 90th birthday celebration will be Saturday, Oct. 21, with an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join us for a day of sweet treats, gifts and surprising guests at the Library. This is another not-to-be-missed event, so add it to your calendars!
Finally, the Cannon Beach Library will soon be participating in the Fred Meyer Community Rewards program, “where shopping and giving unite!” We can all sign up for the program by linking our Fred Meyer rewards card to the Cannon Beach Library. For more information and to link your card, please visit www.fredmeyer.com/community rewards. You can search for the library by name or enter our nonprofit number 87970. Once enrolled, every time your rewards card is scanned at the store, the library will earn a donation!
