Happy almost-spring, library friends and visitors!

We have events planned at the Cannon Beach Library which should keep us busy enough to not get too impatient for milder weather!

First of all, our HRAP Lecture Series continues at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14th. Dr. Bill Chadwick will be with us from Oregon State University. The title of his talk will be “Axial Seamount: The Most Active Volcano in the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Chadwick is research professor at the Hatfield Marine Science Center of Oregon State. The center, also called HMSC, is a resource for visiting scientists and marine science students; it was founded 50 years ago.

Our reading/discussion group, Cannon Beach Reads, will meet the following Wednesday, 7 p.m. on March 21. This month the group has been reading “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven,” by author Sherman Alexie. The book consists of 22 interconnected stories with recurring characters. Alexie is the winner of a number of awards, including the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, the PEN/Hemingway Citation for Best First Fiction, and others. This month the discussion leader will be Sandi Lundy. New members are always welcome!

We will be starting a brand new program for spring break this year in the form of Family Movie Time. Two movies will be shown on Monday, March 26, Wednesday, March 28 and Friday, March 30. All movies will be shown at the library at 11 a.m. and 3 PM on those days. Movies will be family appropriate and will consist of newer G and PG films. The movies will be absolutely free of charge for children of all ages!! Come join us, families!

Looking ahead, on April 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., we will hold our annual volunteer and member appreciation luncheon at the Cannon Beach Chamber Community Hall located at 207 North Spruce St. We are so grateful for all you do for the library, this is our way of showing our appreciation.

The Clatsop Community College ESL (English as a Second Language) program meets from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evenings here at the library. Call Judith Pearson at 971-201-6605 for more information.

If you have an infant 1-year or younger and you are a resident of Cannon Beach or Arch Cape, please call us or drop in and sign up for our Books for Babies program. Your little one will receive three free books to introduce him or her to the great pleasures of reading!0

As always, please drop into the library, or call us at 503-436-1391 if you have any questions about any of our programs or would like to volunteer at the library!

Have a wonderful last few days of winter, we hope!
