Astoria man charged officer

A 39-year-old Astoria man was arrested and booked Wednesday night for disorderly conduct and menacing after allegedly picking up a 2-by-4 piece of wood with nails exposed and charging toward an officer.

Jake Robert Danner was reportedly singing loudly in the area of Lincoln Street and West Duane Street around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. When an officer responded to a disorderly conduct call, Danner charged the officer.

A standoff occurred between Danner and the officer, who drew a gun, according to the Astoria Police Department.

Eventually, Danner stopped and dropped the piece of wood.

He is scheduled for arraignment at 1:15 p.m. today.
