Two Seaside residents have pleaded not guilty in connection with a robbery and shooting at the Beachside Inn in November.

Shaun Scarborough, 28, is facing charges of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and felon in possession of a firearm.

Marta Alicia Garfias, 21, is facing the same charges except for felon in possession of a firearm.

The two allegedly shot a 36-year-old man staying in a room at the hotel near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and N. Downing Street at about 2 a.m. Nov. 12. The man was taken to a Portland-based hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Scarborough and Garfias were arrested in La Mesa, California, one week after the shooting. They were recently transferred to the Clatsop County Jail.

Scarborough was convicted of multiple drug and assault charges in 2007. He pleaded no contest in October to felon in possession of a firearm after a June standoff with Seaside police. Scarborough agreed to serve probation in his plea deal with the district attorney’s office, but the deal stipulated he would serve more than 3 1/2 years in prison if he violated it.

Both Scarborough and Garfias face at least 20 years in prison if convicted on all charges. They are scheduled for early resolution conferences in January.
