The new year brought hope to Clatsop County. Hope Truly Flavin, that is.

Flavin has claimed the title as the first baby of 2018 born in the county.

Flavin was born at 4:21 p.m. Monday at 7 pounds and 11 ounces at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

She was born to Tony Flavin, 39, and Rose Phillippi, 37, of Brownsmead. Hope is Flavin’s second child and Phillippi’s fourth. She has one grandmother to meet in Battleground, Washington, and another back home in Brownsmead. While an exciting time, Flavin said the whole trip in general was calm.

“It went really smooth and fast, and everybody’s healthy,” Flavin said. “I’m happy about that.”

The newest Flavin was due to be delivered by Dec. 23, Flavin said. Her parents aren’t sure why their daughter insisted on a fashionably late entrance to the world.

“It was a little weird that she hung on until the first of January,” Flavin said. “But that’s pretty cool, too.”
