Astoria City Manager Brett Estes is reopening the search for a new community development director.
Two candidates interviewed in February. Estes said he is letting the two candidates know he is not cutting them loose, but he wants to see who else might be interested in the job and ensure the city finds the right fit for the department.
“I think we got some good candidates,” he said. “I really do.”
Amy Weiser, community services director for Moab, Utah, and Kelly Violette, executive director of the Tomball Economic Development Corporation in Tomball, Texas, are both experienced planners and were among three final candidates selected for a round of interviews and meetings in Astoria in mid-February.
The community development director position opened up when former director Kevin Cronin announced he was leaving last fall. Estes, who was the community development director before Cronin, stepped in as interim director, assisted by Mike Morgan, interim city planner.
