Clatsop County fire crews are joining strike teams from around the state helping battle the Camp Fire in Northern California.
Structural and brush trucks from Seaside, Gearhart, Lewis and Clark, Knappa and Olney left Friday, along with a Columbia County strike team. Personnel have been told they could be gone up to 14 days battling the Camp Fire.
Strike teams are heading south as part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, a national state-to-state mutual aid system requested by California.
Jim Walker, the state fire marshal, is mobilizing 15 strike teams from Jackson, Klamath, Douglas, Lane, Marion, Linn, Benton, Lincoln, Polk, Washington, Multnomah, Clatsop, Columbia, Clackamas and Yamhill counties to assist with the California fire.
“Once again, our neighbors in California are in need of support, and even though Oregon had a very long fire season, our Oregon Fire Service has stepped up humbly to help the state of California,” Walker said in a news release.
