SEASIDE — Playing their first game of the post-Maddi Utti era, the Seaside girls basketball team did not miss a beat Friday night at the Gulls’ Nest, where the Lady Gulls extended their unbeaten streak to 16 games with a 48-25 win over Gladstone.

Undefeated at home last year, Seaside has not lost a game on its home court since Jan. 26, 2016.

And in their first contest without Utti (now playing at Fresno State) in four years, the Gulls scored by committee.

Emy Kiser led Seaside with 12 points, followed by Annaka Garhofer with nine. Bryre Babbitt and Jetta Ideue chipped in eight apiece. Anesha Smart added six, as seven Gulls made the scoring column.

“Well, if a positive vision can become reality, this game was about as close as I could imagine,” said Seaside coach Mike Hawes. “We played hard, kept the turnovers in control, and ran and gunned fairly well.”

The season-opening win was a “good first outing, with contributions from everyone,” he said. “Great floor games by Jetta and Bryre. Emy did solid, Annaka hit some threes and Anesha played her best varsity game.”

Defensively, the Gulls had nine steals and held the Gladiators to just 10 total points through three quarters.

Seaside was hot from the field, hitting 19-of-56 field goal attempts, including 7-of-24 from the 3-point line.

Babbitt added 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Seaside hosts Molalla on Thursday.
