The Seaside Gulls put on a show for their alumni Friday night in their home opener, an 80-52 win over Corbett in nonleague boys basketball action.

On “Alumni Night” at the Gulls’ Nest, Seaside led just 17-16 late in the first quarter, but an 18-2 run helped the Gulls build a 35-18 lead midway through the second period, and the game was over by halftime, 44-24.

Chase Januik scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the first half, while Ryan Hague had another big night on offense, scoring 13 of his 19 points in the first half. Payton Westerholm finished with 13.

A barrage of 3-pointers by the Gulls helped Seaside pull away, as Januik opened the second quarter with a trey, followed by a pair of three’s from Beau Johnson and a fourth by Westerholm.

Januik converted two three-point plays, then drained a 3-pointer to help the Gulls to their 20-point halftime lead.

It was Seaside’s 17th straight win at home, where the Gulls have not lost since Jan. 26, 2016.

Seaside improves to 3-0, with the last two wins coming by a combined 57 points.

The Gulls host Yamhill-Carlton (1-3) Tuesday, then will play for their third straight Seaside Holiday Classic championship later in the week. Seaside plays Madras in a first round game, 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
