The Seaside boys basketball team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Newport Cubs Saturday, 70-59. The defeat came after Seaside reached the finals by defeating Madras 100-70 Thursday night and a win Friday against Cottage Grove, 56-46.

The Gulls went into the game 6-0 with hopes to win the holiday tournament on their own court. But the Cubs’ offense and hot hands of hands of Kye Blaser and Justin Plechaty proved too much to overcome. The Gulls trailed from the start and while picking up momentum at halftime, were unable to catch up.

Seaside girls won Thursday, 51-33 on Thursday against Crook County before suffering losses to Yamhill-Carlton on Friday, 55-26, and the Lady Cubs Saturday, 48-28.

The Elma, Washington, Eagles, defeated Astoria in the title game Saturday night.
