The Astoria Rotary honored two Astoria High School students, McKenzie Burnett and Henry Samuelson, as Students of the Month for September. Astoria Rotary Students of the Month are selected from the junior and senior classes at Astoria and Knappa high schools; they must be in good standing in school, and involved in school and community activities.
Burnett, a senior at AHS, is the daughter of Stephanie Burnett. She is involved with honors classes, and is earning college credits through Clatsop Community College. She is the captain of the cross country team and also participates in basketball. She plans to study sports management in college.
Samuelson, a junior at AHS, is the son of Faith and Matt Samuelson. He is involved in numerous leadership roles with 4-H. He is involved in football, basketball and track at school, and is a member of the leadership class. He plans to attend a college in Oregon and major in education.
Students of the Month receive a leadership book selected by Astoria Rotary members, an application for a Rotary scholarship, a letter from a local Rotarian, a gift card to a local coffee establishment, and a Rotary certificate.
Astoria Rotary meets on Mondays at noon at the Elks Lodge in Astoria.
