WARRENTON — Windermere Stellar’s North Coast offices recently presented a $1,800 donation to Start Making a Reader Today (SMART) at the Warrenton Grade School. SMART is a nonprofit organization located throughout Clatsop County that helps young readers increase their literacy skills.

It’s been shown that if a child cannot reach the third grade benchmark reading level, they are four times less likely to graduate by age 19. That’s the motivation behind SMART’s program, which pairs up kindergarten through third grade children with a volunteer to practice reading twice weekly. This $1,800 donation allows SMART to fund six readers in the 2015-16 school year.
