The Astoria chapter of the American Association of University Women invites the public to attend its first 2017-18 meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Astoria Senior Center, 1111 Exchange St. The program is “At the Center: AAUW and the Arts.”

Attendees get an overview of the Senior Center activities, and Carol Newman and Allison Tigard from the Arts Council of Clatsop County give a short presentation on the economic contribution of Arts and Culture in Clatsop County. AAUW Astoria leadership shares the year’s themed programs, “Our Women, Are/Our Leaders”; four members briefly talk about the coming year’s involvement in Women Interested in Going to School (WINGS), scholarships, forums and education.

Refreshments will be served.

The invitation is out for people who might be interested in joining the Astoria branch of AAUW, a national organization whose mission is “advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.” For information, call Pamela Alegria at 503-325-8024.
