Lauren Walton has been selected to represent Astoria as Mrs. Clatsop County in the upcoming Mrs. Oregon America Pageant, the preliminary competition to the Mrs. America national pageant.

She will compete with other Oregon women March 17 at the Performing Arts Center at West Linn High School. She will be judged in four areas by a panel of five judges: 25 percent in Beauty of Face; 25 percent in Poise and Personality; 25 percent in Fitness/Swimwear; and 25 percent in Evening Gown Presentation.

Walton, who is an active duty chief petty officer in the Coast Guard, encourages other young women who have the desire to serve their county, and become a wife and mother, that they can do both. She is also the president of the Chief Petty Officer Association, Lower Columbia River, and the group leader of the Astoria Cloverbuds, a junior 4-H program for children ages 5 to 8.

“Astoria is such a fun community, filled with such great people,” Walton said, “I have enjoyed giving back to the community so much.”

The winner in March will receive and all-expense paid trip to the National Mrs. America Competition, worth

$3,000, and other cash and prizes worth over $10,000.
