Pacific Unitarian Universalist

The Pacific Unitarian Universalist Fellowship holds a service at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Performing Arts Center, 588 16th St. The service is devoted to Christmas carols. Barbara Bate accompanies on the PAC concert grand piano. Chilren are welcome; there is a story and religious education class for them. Coffee and treats are served after the service.

Common Ground Interspiritual

A Celebration of Spirit, sponsored by Common Ground Interspiritual Fellowship, meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Wesley Room at the Astoria First United Methodist Church, 1076 Franklin Ave. Use the 11th Street building entrance. This morning gathering is not defined by any particular belief system, and is intended for the “spiritual but not religious,” as well as those who draw from more than one faith tradition. First Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Church of Astoria, 1103 Grand Ave., presents “Lessons and Carols” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Christmas Eve. The audience is involved with the presentation, as a carol is sung after the reading of each paragraph of the Christmas Story, closing with “Silent Night” performed by candlelight. Music includes hand bells, a performance by Three Wise Women (Kim Angelis, Jennifer Goodenberger and Shelley Loring), and a solo by Phil Keim. Rev. Bill Van Nostran’s sermon topic is “Jesus Christ is Coming to Town.”

First Lutheran

Christmas Eve Services take place at 10 a.m., 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St. A Christmas Day worship service is at 10 a.m. Monday.

Grace Episcopal Church

Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 Franklin Ave., celebrated the end of Advet with a single 9 a.m. Holy Eucharist service on Sunday. The children of Grace present a Christmas pageant during this service.

There are two Christmas Eve services on Sunday. The Family Christmas Eve service is at 4:30 p.m. Crèche figures are used to tell the Nativity Story, and there are Christmas carols and the Holy Eucharist. The second service is preceded by a time of carol singing with the choir at 10:30 p.m.; the Midnight Service begins at 11 p.m, and also features the choir and Holy Eucharist.

On Monday, Christmas Day, a Morning Prayer service is at 10 a.m.

Bethany Free Lutheran

Bethany Free Lutheran Church, 451 34th St., holds a worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The birth of Jesus is celebrated with a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 10 p.m. Sunday, and a Christmas Day service at 10 a.m. Monday. Both services include singing Christmas carols and music. The public is welcome.

Astoria United Methodist

Astoria United Methodist Church, 1076 Franklin Ave., holds an intergenerational Christmas Eve Morning Service at 11 a.m. Sunday, with traditional Christmas music offerings including a young pianist solo, a violin and recorder duet, and a medley using organ, piano and clarinet. There are also Christmas carols, an in-service craft table for children and refreshments after the service.

First Lutheran

The Fourth Sunday of Advent, Sunday, is celebrated at First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St., at 10 a.m. The Christmas Eve services with Holy Communion and special music include a family service at 5 p.m., and a candlelight service at 10 p.m.

On Christmas Day, Monday, there is a worship service with Holy Communion at 10 a.m.

St. Mary, Star of the Sea

For nine days before Christmas, Dec. 15 to 23, the Hispanic community gathers each night at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church for a Posada, a remembering of the journey of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem. The gathering begins with a rosary at the church, then moves to the St. Mary, Star of the Sea School autitorium for music, food and entertainment for the children. All are welcome.

On Sunday, the schedule is as follows: Morning Masses at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m., and a Bilingual Mass at 1 p.m., at St. Mary, Star of the Sea; a Nativity Mass at 4 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales, 867 Fifth Ave. in Hammond; a Children and Family Mass at 7 p.m. at St. Mary, Star of the Sea; and a Midnight Nativity Mass at St. Mary, Star of the Sea.

On Christmas Day, Monday, a Bilingual Mass is at 10 a.m. at St. Mary, Star of the Sea.
