John Jacob Astor Elementary School held its annual Jump Rope for Heart event on Valentine’s Day. This year the students raised a total of $8,112 for the American Heart Association. Top fundraisers were kindergartner Paul Schacher, pictured, who raised $725, first-grader Kameron Green with $595, and Penelope Flaming with $495. All Astor students participated in the event as part of the physical education program, as well as 135 families, making it one of the most successful events in the past 20 years.
