Members of the St. Mary, Star of the Sea High School Class of 1967 gathered for a reception Saturday to honor their fellow deceased classmate by presenting the Stan Hauer Memorial Scholarship for $6,300 to Sierra Lyons, who attends Clatsop Community College.

Lyons graduated from Warrenton High School in 2017, and was attending Western Oregon University when injuries from a car accident required her to move back home. She enrolled at CCC to continue her education, and will apply to the college’s nursing program, which offers an automatic transfer to Oregon Health and Science University’s nursing program upon completion of her registered nurse associate’s degree.

“I’m so moved that the whole Class of 1967 was a part of this gesture,” Lyons said at the reception, “and I’m really grateful that CCC and the nursing program are right here to further my education.”
