Crossroads Community


SVENSEN — Crossroads Community Church, a Friends Fellowship, at 40618 Old Highway 30, is holding a Free Family Film Friday at 6:45 p.m. Friday. Come enjoy a film and fellowship. First Baptist


The First Baptist Church of Astoria, 349 Seventh St., is once again part of the national “Back to Church Sunday” event on Sunday, with its regular worship service beginning at 10:45 a.m. Following the service, the church holds its annual Street Picnic in front of the church. All are welcome to attend the service and stay for hot dogs and hamburgers and all the fixings.

St. Mary, Star of the Sea


The local Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court 151, of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, hosts the other courts throughout the state at the 47th Oregon State Biennial Conference today, Saturday and Sunday. The theme is “If God is with Us, Who can be Against Us.”

Most activities, including new officer training, workshops and sisterhood, are being held at the St. Mary, Star of the Sea School auditorium, 1411 Grand Ave.


Bethany Free Lutheran


The new Sunday school year at Bethany Free Lutheran Church, 451 34th St., begins at 9:30 a.m. with a gathering in the church’s overflow parking lot area with music, a Bible lesson, snacks and an activity. Following the 11 a.m. worship service, the start of the new Sunday school year is being celebrated with a barbecue picnic in the overflow parking lot area. Everyone is welcome.


Astoria Church of Christ


The Astoria Church of Christ, 692 12th St., hosts Dennis Daniels of Scappoose in its continuing series of speakers at Sunday’s 10:30 a.m. service. His topic is “Confidence in Our Salvation,” taken from 1 John 2:25. All are welcome.

Grace Episcopal


A special “Welcome Home Sunday” is being held at Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 Franklin Ave., at both the 8 and 10 a.m. services Sunday, to welcome those returning from summer vacation and those new to the church.

A Soup-Supper is served at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Parish Hall, free of charge. Those willing to help should come at 3 p.m. to set up, or 5 p.m. to help clean up.

A Taizé Prayer and Song service is offered at 7 p.m. Wednesday, consisting of simple repeated chants, periods of silence, prayers individual and communal, and the lighting of candles. Musical accompaniment is provided by Jennifer Goodenberger (piano), Shelley Loring (flute), and Erik Utterback (cello). All are welcome.

First Lutheran


First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St., is celebrating autumn with Rally Day on Sunday. The activity starts at 9:30 a.m. with the assembling of hygiene kits for Helping Hands clients, followed by a worship service at 11 a.m. that includes a blessing of the backpacks. After the service there is an outdoor picnic and music. Neighbors are invited, and welcome and bring backpacks for a blessing.


Astoria Seventh-day Adventist


The Astoria Seventh-day Adventist Church, 300 Nehalem Ave., presents Doug Batchelor’s “Foundations of Faith” program at 6:30 p.m. tonight. All are welcome.
