Explorer, storyteller and photographer DANIEL FOX, pictured, founder of the Wild Image Project (www.wildimageproject.com), passed through Astoria recently on a two-month fundraising journey for the WILD Youth Wilderness Camp, KAYAKING 1,000 MILES down the Pacific Coast from Victoria, British Columbia, to San Francisco.
“The goal is to raise the necessary funds to send a group of underprivileged teens to a 30-day sea kayaking camp in Alaska in the summer of 2015,” he said. The camp will be led by the National Outdoor Leadership School (www.nols.edu). He is emphatic that youth should have “the opportunity to experience the wilderness firsthand.”
“My love of the outdoors stems from growing up exploring the woods and spending my summers in camps,” he explained. “Being able to experience the wilderness in my youth had an incredible impact on my life.” Which is why he started WILD (Wilderness Immersion for Leadership and Discovery), and began the 1,000 mile paddle to raise money for the camp.

“I am up to the challenge and the reward of completing my expedition,” Daniel declared, “and sending these youth to a wilderness camp is the best ‘thank you’ I can imagine.”
