WARRENTON — Warrenton avenged a loss at Junction City last year with a 49-44 win over the Class 4A Tigers Saturday night at Warrenton, in a nonleague girls basketball game.

Tyla Little scored 23 points for the Warriors, who led for most of the game, other than a two-point deficit in the third quarter.

“It was a well-played game, back and forth the whole way,” said Warrenton coach (and Junction City graduate) Robert Hoepfl, whose team improved to 2-0. “It was six points or closer for most of the game.”

The Warriors finally began to pull away, building a 10-point lead early in the fourth quarter.

Kenzie Ramsey and Fernanda Alvarez scored nine points apiece, and Claire Bussert added eight as the only other Warriors to score.

“Between Fernanda, Kenzie, Sagi (Diego), Morgan (Blodgett) and Maria (Heyen), we played good defense,” Hoepfl said.

Warrenton hosts Naselle Tuesday.
