Wrestling: Astoria’s Trey Hageman qualifies for state meet

MOLALLA — In their last year at the 4A level, Crook County made off with the District 1/4A wrestling title Saturday, scoring 412.5 points for the team title.

Tillamook was second with 372 points. Seaside (23 points) and Astoria (18) finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 11-team field.

The Fishermen still had one state qualifier, as senior Trey Hageman placed fourth at 160 pounds.

Hageman scored two straight wins to open the tournament, a fall (1:52) over Molalla’s Brady Laccino, and a 6-5 decision over Catalino LeClaire of Madras in the quarterfinals.

Tillamook senior Eli McRae pinned Hageman in a semifinal match, sending Hageman to the consolation bracket, where he bounced back with a 45-second pin over Molalla’s Emmett Smyth. Hageman lost by fall to Tillamook’s Caleb Werner in the third-place match.

Team scores: Crook County 412.5, Tillamook 372, Molalla 146, Estacada 144, Banks 140, Scappoose 135, Madras 76, Gladstone 74, Seaside 23, Astoria 18, Corbett 13.
