Volleyball: Astoria, Seaside both sweep Gladstone

GLADSTONE — The Astoria and Seaside volleyball teams both made a Tuesday trip to Gladstone, where the Gladiators hosted a nonleague Clatsop Country doubleheader against the Fishermen and Gulls.

And Gladstone was no match for the two Cowapa League powers, as Astoria won in three games (25-13, 25-9, 25-11), and Seaside also swept past the Gladiators (25-14, 25-9, 25-13).

For Astoria, Kes Sandstrom led the way with seven kills, with Emilli DeLong adding six kills.

Taja-Rae Tuimato led the Lady Fishermen with nine assists, followed by Julia Norris with six.

Kajsa Jackson had six blocks at the net, while Astoria served up 19 aces, led by Hailey O’Brien (seven) and Norris (six). The Fishermen host North Marion Thursday.

Tenth-ranked Seaside improved to 8-3 overall, and No. 15 Astoria is 3-2. Gladstone dropped to 0-5.
