DuPont, Wash.

Feb. 16, 1920 – June 15, 2014

Julia “Sue” E. (Yrjana) Wilson passed away on June 15, 2014, in Lakewood, Wash., at the age of 94. She was born in Astoria, Ore., on February 16, 1920, the younger daughter of the late John Paul Yrjana and the late Anna W. (Klemetti) Yrjana Kivisto, both originally from Hailuoto, Finland.

Julia grew up in a house that still stands at 382 Alameda Ave., and graduated from Astoria High School in 1938. She met her husband, Eldon R. Wilson, while he was stationed in the U.S. Army near Astoria at Fort Stevens, and they were married in 1940. They traveled the world over the next 25 years, living at Army assignments in Japan, Germany, Turkey and the U.S. before retiring at Fort Lewis, Wash., and settling nearby in Lakewood. After her husband passed away in 1991, Julia continued to live in Lakewood until 2007, when she moved to a retirement community in DuPont, Wash.

Julia will be missed by her three sons and their families, Dennis and Nancy Wilson of Ellensburg, Wash., Jim and Dawnette Wilson and their daughter Elizabeth of Soldotna, Alaska, and John Wilson and Kathryn McGarrah of Seattle, Wash., and John’s daughter Siiri Wilson Wade of Melbourne, Australia. Julia will also be remembered by her late stepbrother Toivo Kivisto’s and his late wife Evelyn’s daughters, Charlotte Vlastelicia of Scappoose, Ore. and Patty Kivisto of Astoria.

Julia was buried at the Fort Lewis cemetery alongside her beloved husband, Eldon.
