Jan. 10, 1975 — Sept. 30, 2017
Robert was the son of loving parents, Jim and Sharon Miles. He was born on Jan. 10, 1975 in Vancouver, Washington. He died in Seaside, Oregon, Sept. 30, 2017, at the age of 42.
His good nature and sense of humor were enjoyed by all who met him, and especially his family. He had a way of telling stories that would put a smile on your face and warm any heart that happened to be in the grace of his company.
His hard work was matched by the ability to make his co-workers laugh. The work was hard, too. He worked in the canneries, at a hotel and previously with his brother-in- law, Daryl Gosser, and nephew, Travis Gosser, doing concrete construction. What a pleasure it was to work side by side with someone who could brighten the day and lessen the load.
Robert is most remembered for his love of the outdoors. His passions were fishing, clam digging and crabbing. Always accompanied by a buddy, family or friend, he would enjoy to the fullest the time spent either on the water or near it. Nothing was better than a limit of clams, or dinner cooking up the fresh catch of the day. He also loved to comb the beach with his metal detector.
His nephew, Travis, created a one-of-a-kind decal for Robert that showed him holding a specially designed clam shovel in one hand, and a metal detector in the other. His head was topped with a baseball cap, while a cigarette was dancing between his lips.
Robert was someone who loved to tinker, taking things apart and putting them back together, hopefully without an extra screw. He loved to work on his boat, too. Recently he was working on two engines at his father’s home.
Robert tragically lost his life all too soon. There were many adventures yet to take and many stories left untold. He will forever be held in the hearts of his family.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Diana Miles of Seaside; two step-daughters, Amber and Ashley; and a mother-in-law, Donna Graves. He has a brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Tina Niehuser; a son-in-law Jeremy Ladd; a son, Kyle Miles of Seaside; and a daughter, Regina Pettinger of Nevada. His loving father, Jim Miles of Seaside, will grieve his loss along with two sisters, Donna Gosser of Seaside and Delora Applegate of Vancouver, Washington. He has a brother, Jim Miles Jr. of Vancouver, Washington. Also mourning his loss are his granddaughter Summer, grandson Jaden, nephews Travis and Jeff Gosser of Seaside, and Trevor Leightner of Washington. His nieces are Courtney Leightner of Seaside and Ashley Applegate of Vancouver, Washington. He will also be mourned by his many treasured friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the American Legion in Seaside, Oregon, on Nov. 12, 2017, at 1 p.m. Please bring your stories, special memories, or simple messages of love or humor to share. There will be some tears, but there will be laughter and joy, too. Our memory of him will be celebrated through all of you who loved him so.
A soul appointment has been kept by Robert, but his love will forever be alive and joyful in our hearts. We hold dear the precious memory of his life.
