John “Billy” Bader Jr.

Seaside

Oct. 28, 1947 — Oct. 26, 2017

John “Billy” William Bader Jr. was born to John William Bader and Ellen T. Bader in Portland, Oregon. He attended Alameda Grade School and Benson Polytechnic High School, graduating from Grant High School in 1965.

He served two years in the U.S. Coast Guard, and was a Merchant Marine.

He spent his life after high school living in Seaside, where he became an electrician with Borland Electric. Bill was the manager of all electrical systems in the renovation of the downtown Portland Library. He worked on the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant, and was the electrical foreman for the wastewater facility in Hillsboro.

He retired in 2002, but continued his love of learning through classes at Portland Community College, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the Maritime Museum and independent research.

Bill had a zest for life and a love of the outdoors. His hobbies were skiing (he was part of the Mount Hood Ski Patrol), biking, sailing, salmon fishing and clamming, mushrooming, traveling, remodeling rentals and camping trips every August with the nephews in the Olympics.

Billy is survived by his loving sisters, Marilyn Bader Mills (Allan) and Janet Bader Hughes (Gregg); nephews, Jason Hughes (Kristy), Jonathan Hughes (Erin), Justin Hughes and Jeremy Hughes; four great-nieces and nephews, Madison, Owen, Kai, and Dylon; and his love, Marjean Langley.

Billy was a caring and devoted friend to many, especially to his mother, Ellen, and his 105-year-old auntie, Edith Pate. He lead a simple and fulfilling life, and will be truly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to: Marysville Nursing Home, 14645 S.W. Farmington Road, Beaverton, OR 97007; or the Columbia River Maritime Museum, 1992 Marine Drive, Astoria, OR 97103.

A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 at Holy Rosary Church in Portland. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
