Mary Louise Gix Grimm Marking, 94, passed away Nov. 16, 2017. She was born in Portland, Oregon, to Al and Elenora Gix. Her brothers are Gerry Gix and Jim Gix (deceased).
Mary Louise attended Holy Redeemer Catholic grade school; she graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Marylhurst College.
Mary Louise worked in the shipyards drafting during World War II.
She married Bernard Grimm June 6, 1944, and they had two sons, Ronald (Karen) and Thomas (Kathy) Grimm. Bernard died of polio in September 1950.
Mary Louise married Gerald Marking on May 8, 1954, and added two girls to the family, Trese (Mark) Chaboya and Mary Ellen (Randy) Robertson.
When the girls were older, Mary Louise went back to college and received her teaching degree from Oregon State University. She taught for 19 years at Woodlawn grade school until she retired.
Gerald Marking passed away Feb. 10, 2003.
Between the four siblings, Mary Louise has eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The service is Saturday, Dec. 2; a rosary is at 10:30 a.m., and a Mass is at 11 a.m., at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 7007 S.W. 46th Ave., Portland, OR 97219.
