Marjorie “Marge” L. (Jones) Orand, 72, a resident of Clatskanie, Oregon, passed away with her family present on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Hammond, Oregon.
Marge was born in Portland, Oregon, to Howard and Myrtle “Irene” Jones on Sept. 24, 1945. She attended Birkenfeld Grade School, Vernonia High School and graduated from Clatsop Community College with a nursing degree.
Marge married Tommie Atkins in 1967. They lived in many states, and in Germany, before returning home to Birkenfeld, where they had two daughters. They divorced in 1988. She married Delbert Orand in 1995.
Marge is survived by her daughters, Michelle McDonald-Bolton of Knappa, Oregon, and Janelle Adams (Dale) of Hammond, Oregon; her grandchildren, Jessica, Tori and Bethany McDonald and Daniel Adams (Keranda); her great-granddaughters, Aryana and Isa; her brother, Louis Jones (Sally); her sister, Marilyn Pederson (Dennis); and many nieces and nephews.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert, in 2010, and her parents.
Marge worked with her parents at Olympic Forest Products in Birkenfeld, Oregon, until she obtained her nursing certificate. She then worked at St. John’s Hospital in Longview, Washington, Providence in Seaside, Oregon, and Columbia Memorial Hospital and Pacific Pediatric in Astoria, Oregon.
She was very active in the Mist Helping Circle, as were her mother and grandmother. She was a lifetime member of Wabanang Chapter No. 127 of the Order of Eastern Star in Clatskanie.
Marge’s hobbies included reading, growing beautiful flowers, traveling with family and traveling with her longtime friend, Dixie Christman. Marge was an accomplished quilter, a passion she shared with her sister, Marilyn.
A memorial service for Marge will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at the Groulx Family Mortuary in Rainier, Oregon, followed by a procession to, and brief committal service at Fishhawk Cemetery in Birkenfeld, Oregon. Interested persons are welcome at both services.
