SEASIDE — Scappoose put up a challenge, but Seaside held on for a 57-53 win over the Indians in a Cowapa League boys basketball opener Tuesday at the Gulls’ Nest.

Duncan Thompson scored 22 points to lead Seaside, now ranked second in the latest 4A OSAA rankings.

Chase Januik tossed in 11 points and Payton Westerholm added nine, despite playing limited minutes because of foul trouble in the first half.

Seaside plays Friday at Astoria.
