BEAVERTON — Seaside bounced back from a tough loss at Astoria Friday with a solid effort Tuesday at Valley Catholic, but the sixth-ranked Valiants escaped with the victory, 49-37.
The Cowapa League girls basketball showdown was much closer than the score indicated.
Following their 36-turnover loss against the Fishermen, the Gulls came out and took a 19-17 halftime lead against the Valiants. And Seaside held leads throughout the game, including a 30-24 advantage late in the third period.
Emy Kiser, Annaka Garhofer and Bryre Babbitt all drained 3-pointers in the third for the Lady Gulls, for a 33-31 lead going into the final quarter.
But the Valiants rallied behind a pair of 3-point shots by Noelle Mannen, and Callie Kawaguchi did the rest from the free throw line, as Valley Catholic finished the contest on an 18-4 run.
Mannen led all scorers with 23 points, followed by Kawaguchi with 15. Kiser scored nine for Seaside before fouling out, along with Jetta Ideue.
