Seaside - Meals Made Easy for Diabetes, a four session series of classes for diabetics and their caregivers, will be offered from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the Bob Chisholm Community Center in Seaside.

The classes will focus on how a healthy diet and physical activity affect diabetes self-management. The Meals Made Easy program was developed in an effort to help reduce the burden of diabetes by offering a program that can enhance meal planning and food preparation skills with the ultimate goal of good blood sugar control.

Each class includes lecture, discussion and hands-on activities to reinforce the concepts. At each class, participants cook and eat a meal together that utilizes recipes that are appropriate for a diabetic diet. Class topics include making food choices, understanding serving sizes, planning meals using the plate method and nutrition facts food labels, buying healthy food and evaluating recipes and making healthy recipe alterations.

Pre-registration is recommended. The class is limited to 20 participants and will be canceled if less than 10 people pre-register. The cost is $10.
