With the traditional Fourth of July parades, fireworks shows and festivities canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, many Clatsop County residents celebrated through car parades, demonstrations and private celebrations.

The protesters are sadly misguided. BLM is a Marxist organization, at least according to founding member Patrisse Cullors. Supporting them is pushing an ideology that's led to untold misery and tens of millions of deaths over the last century. There's nothing virtuous about it. And now they've gone so far as to associate the American flag and The 4th with "institutional racism". Way to kick sand on every service member of every race who has served. BLM doesn't care about black lives or racial harmony. They want power and racial division and they're using Floyd's death as a prop to get it. The fact that they're willing to look past the deaths of dozens of people resulting from the "mostly peaceful protests", many of them black and some of them children, is evidence of that much.
