If you are considering traveling to another country for any type of health care, be aware that "health tourism" has its disadvantages:

• Your medical insurance may not pay for procedures done outside the United States, so you may have to pay cash.

• If you are a victim of malpractice, you may have no legal recourse because of weak malpractice laws in other countries.

• If you develop complications after a procedure or surgery, follow-up care may be difficult to obtain.
