• Mucus: a general term for the slippery, sticky secretions produced by the body's respiratory, gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary tracts

• Phlegm: another word for mucus, specifically from the respiratory tract

• Sputum: a combination of mucus from the upper and lower respiratory tracts and saliva, usually expectorated rather than swallowed

• Expectorate: to cough up or spit out mucus, sputum or phlegm (also known as "hocking a loogie" with various spellings)
