Whenever our skin itches, we tend to scratch it. Unfortunately, scratching causes the body to release chemicals, such as histamines, which cause more itching. It's a vicious cycle. The way to break it is to avoid scratching. Instead, try a cool shower, an oatmeal bath, moisturizing lotion, or an anti-itch lotion such as calamine or hydrocortisone cream. Antihistamines can also help, but can make you drowsy.
