A bang-up job

You may have seen the Sons and Daughters of an Original Astoria Clown towing their new tram behind the restored original Astoria Clown Car during the Astoria Regatta Parade. Astorian Jeff Daly found the vehicle, a put-out-to-pasture Los Angeles Zoo tour minibus, rusting away in a junkyard in Jeffers Gardens, and had it cosmetically restored in time for the parade.

Newly named The Glam Tram, it looked quite spiffy for the Regatta, but its engine was uncharted territory. However, thanks to the (maniacal?) mechanical skills of Jason Bangheart in Hammond (pictured), the engine has now roared, literally, back to life, with a series of pops, bangs and occasional bursts of flames. Jeff memorialized the event on YouTube here: http://tinyurl.com/glambang

“Still needs new points, wires and few other items, but it fired and ran tonight after sitting for 10 or 15 years,” Jeff reported. “Still haven’t heard the true history (of it), but we are just weeks away from being on the road.”
