The New Zone Art Collective of Eugene arrives at the Astoria Visual Arts Gallery with an exhibit opening at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. Violinist Jeffrey Reynolds and friends will provide music.

The New Zone is an eclectic group of more than 40 artists who run the nonprofit organization themselves. The collective has sustained itself since the late 1970s with a philosophy that fosters making art on the cutting edge. The New Zone encourages young artists, as well as those whose work holds strong to an experimental, extemporaneous, and contemporary handling of two-dimensional, and three-dimensional art executed in an array of mixed media.

The show will run until Oct. 3. For information, call the gallery at (503) 325-4589. The AVA Gallery is open from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays at 160 10th St.
