Astorian ANDREA LARSON PEREZ was overjoyed when the invention created by her brother, GEOFF LARSON, pictured inset, and his partner, Ben Forman, was featured on the TODAY SHOW’s Try it Out Today segment April 10. You can see the clip at

Cast member MATT LAUER was among those gamely trying out the ZBOARD (, a weight-sensing electric skateboard, pictured, which can hit speeds up to 17 mph and goes about five miles before needing a recharge. Wired Magazine calls it “The Electric Skateboard for Badasses.”

“I think we’re going to see more devices that are designed to be fun to ride/drive,” Geoff said. “People write a lot about the convenience, reduced carbon footprint, and exercise elements of alternative personal vehicles, but if a vehicle isn’t fun, I can’t see people immediately wanting to use it, much less pay more for it.” And people do want the ZBoard. A lot. Because of high demand, there is a lead time of four to eight weeks when ordering.

Geoff’s sister, meanwhile, is verklempt. “So proud!” Andrea exclaimed.
