The North Coast Chapter of ABATE of Oregon collected almost 1,000 stuffed animals as part of its annual Care Bears collection drive. Collection boxes were placed during November and December at many area businesses, including Warrenton Pizza Hut, Lower Columbia Bowling Lanes, Clatsop Community College, The Daily Astorian and the Logger Restaurant.

The toys will be given to local emergency support agencies to comfort children in stressful situations, and to the Assistance League of the Columbia Pacific throughout the year.

“When the chapter met at the Astoria Moose Lodge for the annual wrap-up to the two-month long collection drive, all were astounded by the number of stuffed toys,” said North Coast ABATE Coordinator Al Jaques. “Words can’t express the chapter’s deepest appreciation to the community for their generous donations.”
