If you're looking for a place to wear green this weekend, several events promise Irish food and fun:
Star of the Sea School celebrates the Irish holiday all evening Saturday. Dinner is served from 4 to 8 p.m., consisting of corned beef and cabbage, boiled and mashed potatoes, pistachio salad, Irish soda bread and a green beverage. Hot dogs or sausages will be offered as an alternative to the corned beef. Live entertainment featuring Irish dancing and Celtic music is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and the Knights of Columbus host bingo from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be booths featuring desserts, beer and wine, popcorn and soda and gift items. Admission is suggested at $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children younger than 10.
For those who like their St. Patrick's with a Scandinavian flavor, the Grays River (Wash.) Grange sponsors a St. Patrick's Day Dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday with music by Sven and Jorgen of Astoria. A $5 donation is suggested, and refreshments will be available. Funds raised will go toward the continued restoration of the grange hall, specifically the kitchen.
And on the day to wear green itself, The Sandtrap Restaurant and Lounge at Gearhart Golf Links will host "St. Patrick's Day at The Trap," from 5 to 8 p.m. Chefs will be cooking up Irish lamb stew, corned beef and cabbage and Irish soda bread. The celebration also includes an Irish whiskey tasting for a reasonable price. For information, call 717-8502.
