Start your holiday season with the classics this Thanksgiving weekend. "A Cornucopia of Classical Music" showcases three different groups of string artists, including the Astoria High School String Group, Kim Angelis and members of the string ensemble Con Amici. The benefit concert for the theater takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27.

Angelis is a composer/performer who displays classical technique laced with the passion of a "Gypsy Primas." From Alaska to Ancud, Chile, and over the Pacific Ocean to Asia, Angelis has entertained international concert audiences. Her music was highlighted on NBC's worldwide coverage of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, and her music has been nominated for several independent music awards: Best Instrumental Album ("Esperanza") and Best Original Score ("Sweet Nothings"). In August 2002, Angelis was honored to be voted Best Musician by the readers of her (then) hometown newspaper, the Calaveras Enterprise. She is accompanied by her husband, gypsy-flamenco-inspired guitarist Josef "The Wild Hungarian" Gault, in the fiery tradition of Manitas de Plata. Gault is also a programmer on KMUN.

General admission is $12, or $10 in advance. Tickets are available at the River Theater's box office from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, seven days a week at the Astoria Co-op on 14th and Duane streets, or online at
