CANNON BEACH - Fall season at the Coaster Theatre begins with "Enchanted April," opening Friday, Sept. 30.

The play, written by Matthew Barber, is based on the novel by Elizabeth von Arnim. Two London housewives rent a small medieval castle on the shores of the Mediterranean in Italy for a holiday in spring, and are joined by two other women to share expenses. The book was adapted into a film in 1992 starring Josie Lawrence and Miranda Richardson, and the stage production was nominated for a Tony award for Best Play in 2003.

The Coaster's production, directed by Steve Smith, features Nancy Montgomery, David Sweeney, Brandy and Jason Hussa, Rhonda and Mick Alderman, Pia Holm and Suzi Brown. The Wine Shack will hold an Italian wine tasting at 6:30 p.m. opening night, and a complimentary champagne reception will follow the performance.

"Enchanted April" runs through Oct. 29. Tickets are $14 to $16. For information or reservations, call the Coaster Theatre at (503) 436-1242.
