Looking for a way to get the children outside and away from the television, but don't want to travel far or spend a lot of money? Bring the family to the Flavel House Museum lawn between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11 and 12, for some free Victorian fun and games.

Enjoy old-fashioned games such as badminton and croquet, or test your skills with the hoop and stick or ball and cup games. There will be contests and prizes, apple pressing and butter making demonstrations, and other hands-on activities for youngsters to enjoy. Nosh on a corn dog and lemonade (yes, they had those back then) while the kids learn how children in the Victorian era entertained themselves.

The Clatsop County Historical Society event is made possible by the sponsorship of NW Natural. The CCHS is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Clatsop County and the surrounding area. For information about this event or other CCHS activities, call (503) 325-2203 or e-mail cchs@seasurf.net
