Holiday ‘Stuff the Truck’ food drive sets record

Each year Arbor Care Tree Specialists, led by Luke Colvin, organizes sponsorships, posters, volunteers and media to collect food and funds for the “Stuff the Truck” food drive for the Clatsop Community Action Regional Food Bank to support the fight against hunger in Clatsop County.

Other sponsors of the drive are Buoy Beer Co., Seaside Outlet Mall, Fort George Brewery, Clatsop Distributing, Wauna Federal Credit Union, Bornstein Seafoods, J & S Appliance and Home Furnishings, Bronze Coast Gallery, Classic Bodywerks & Towing, Clatsop Power Equipment, Englund Marine, Lektro, Seaside Aquarium, Warrenton Auto & Marine Repair, Astoria Ford, Del’s OK Tire Factory, P&L Johnson Mechanical, JP Plumbing, Oregon Sen. Betsy Johnson, Old Town Framing, Gimre’s Shoes, and KRKZ and KMUN.

The North Coast Chapter of ABATE, along with Oregon American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 75, donated $1,000 to the food bank.

To date, after seven years of the event, the regional food bank has collected 36,552 pounds of food at the doors of local supermarkets, donated directly from people in the communities, and over $60,436 from customer donations and sponsorships of the events. Over 302,181 pounds of food was procured with the donated funds from this event, and is distributed to emergency food outlets throughout Clatsop County.
