Clatsop County Public Health and the Oregon Health and Science University Knight Cancer Institute are partnering to offer a free program, “Step It Up,” with free weekly walks led by a trained guide aimed at reducing the incidence and burden of cancer. The program, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. April 2 at the Clatsop Community College indoor track in Patriot Hall, is for cancer survivors and their friends and family.

Research shows that walking can help ease the side effects of cancer treatments, prevent the re-occurrence of cancer, and help in the prevention of certain kinds of cancer in people with a higher risk for those types. Family and friends are encouraged to join, as social support has been shown to help people make lasting commitments to physical activity.
