The Little Ballet Theatre’s production of “The Nutcracker” is being performed at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5, and 2 p.m. Dec. 6, on the stage of the Astoria High School Auditorium.

This year marks the 41st year of Little Ballet Theatre’s traditional start of the Holiday. Special attention is given to the young members of the audience, as they are invited on stage, following the two matinées, to receive a candy cane from the Mechanical Bear and the Sugar Plum Fairy.

At every performance the audience can view the wooden characters of the story built by Dan Foss. Lighting designers Michael and Rhonda Alderman lend their talents to bring the story to life on the stage, the costumes are designed by Debbie Barbic, and the Tchaikovsky score is being played by 55 musicians, conducted by Cory Pederson. A 12-voice choir highlights the Kingdom of Snow scene.

Tickets for “The Nutcracker” are on sale now at TicketsWest ( and at the Liberty Theatre Box Office from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
