ILWACO, Wash. — Washington State Parks invites the public to start the new year off with a First Day Hike on Tuesday at nearly 40 state parks, including at Cape Disappointment State Park.

Meet at 10 a.m. at the North Head Lighthouse parking lot to hike the 1-mile Lighthouse Keepers Loop Trail with an interpretive specialist.

Learn the history of the lighthouse and residence grounds, and tack on an optional extension with a walk along the Bell’s View trail.

It is the first of 12 Washington State Parks free days taking place in the coming year.

Park visitors will not need to display the Discover Pass on vehicles to access state parks for the New Year’s Day activities or for other state park visits on free days.
