Regional writers share their thoughts about the Columbia River against a backdrop of vivid maritime images at the RiverSea Gallery at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 26.

Jim Dott, Claudia Harper, Robert Pyle and Patricia Staton present "River Readings," a spoken word event about the river's role in North Coast life. Intrigued by the interplay of the Columbia and human activity, these popular authors of fiction, nonfiction and poetry will read from their works about our communities, new industrial development and the drama of the river itself.

RiverSea Gallery is open daily at 1160 Commercial St. in Astoria's historic downtown. The gallery features contemporary North Coast and Northwest artists, with original fine art and fine craft in all media and distinctive designer jewelry. For information, call (503) 325-1270.
