Clatsop Community College and the American Association of University Women sponsor a Conference for Women in Transition Sept. 14 in Astoria.

The event is also sponsored by more than 100 women in the community who own and manage local businesses, women who are professionals, and women who can be role models for other women, according to organizer Claudia Harper.

"At a time when many families in Clatsop County are tightening their belts," Harper said, "women who have stayed at home to raise children or who have worked part-time at minimum wages are looking for a way to better their economic situation." Women who are ready for a career change or who are looking to complete their education with a GED or associate's degree can find help at the conference in setting their goals and assistance guiding them through the steps to achieve those goals.

The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14 in Patriot Hall, Room 322, where participants will have an opportunity to hear State Rep. Betsy Johnson as keynote speaker. Registered participants may attend various workshops throughout the day, and lunch and childcare will be provided. Door prizes and scholarships will also be available.

Advance registration is required. For information or to register, call 338-2408.
